Echoes in the Breeze
夏の軽やかさ
This kimono has a story of quiet persistence. I didn’t pick it out—it was handed to me during a flea market because it didn’t sell. At first glance, its simplicity didn’t stand out among the more colorful and ornate pieces, but the longer I looked, the more its understated charm grew on me.
The fabric is slightly stiff, which makes me think it’s made of asa (hemp) or a cotton blend rather than silk. Its open-weave design is airy and perfect for summer, but the texture adds a sense of durability and structure that makes it unique. The soft interplay of greens and blues reminds me of rain-drenched leaves, cool and refreshing on a hot day.
Styling Thoughts
This kimono pairs beautifully with a white or pale beige obi to complement its light and airy feel. A woven obijime in soft green or blue keeps the coordination subtle and harmonious. I’d finish the look with straw zori for a natural touch.
Why It’s Special to Me
There’s something poetic about this kimono—it wasn’t flashy enough to catch anyone’s eye at the market, yet it quietly found its way into my collection. Wearing it feels like honoring overlooked beauty. Its breathability and simplicity make it a go-to for calm summer days, whether I’m at home or enjoying a moment outdoors.
